A Real-Life Example of a Pitch That Writers Will Ignore
Plus tips on how to tweak to make it more marketable!
Hello, TTC subscribers! We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend doing lots of fun things (or just doing nothing, cuz that also sounds awesome, tbh)!
This week, we wanted to share a real-life example of a pitch that we would venture to guess won’t lead to much (if any) response from journalists. But we’re not here to shame this pitch … we’re going to turn it into a lesson on WHY it wouldn’t be a fit for most writers as written and give some context into how making a few tweaks could go a long way to make it more marketable.
But first … a little housekeeping …

This Week’s Topic: An Example of a Pitch That Won’t Land Coverage
Unfortunately, we receive a lot of pitches that fall flat in our inboxes. Here is one that Jill received last week that is a good example of one that probably won’t have much ROI for the publicist.
Subject line: Quick Question!
Hi Jill!
Are you working on or interested in working on any stories about the best products to bring with you when you travel??
If so, I work with a variety of great brands and products that have some great travel essentials!
Let me know if you are interested!!
Thanks.
There’s a lot that could have been done differently here, so let’s break it down step by step (starting with the subject line!) which will hopefully give you an idea of some things you can do as a publicist to make your own pitches more appealing to writers.
