A 2025 Update on What Platforms Journalist Are Posting Calls for Sources on These Days
We weighed in with our expertise + did some crowdsourcing on what platforms writers and journalists are using to share calls for sources
Hi Top Tier Community!
A big THANK to those of you who joined us for last week’s How to Become a Writer’s BFF: Networking & Relationship Management session!
We had a great turnout and got through all of our tips and tricks for where to meet new writers and how to strengthen journalist relationships to help your client become a go to source. Among the many thing we talked about were:
Where to meet new writers
How to introduce yourself to a new writer
The best ways to introduce a new client to a writer
Things publicists do that make writers not want to work with them
How it’s SUPER EASY to stand out when answering a call for sources if you just do a couple extra steps
Should publicists be inviting writers to dinner, for drinks, hosting networking events? How lucrative are those invites?
How to help your client actually end up in the article (Spoiler alert: Just because they did an interview with a journalist, doesn’t mean they are a shoe in to be included in the article)
When to respond to calls for sources
How to nurture relationships with writers- quick things you can do in 2 minutes or less that can make a BIG impact
How to be a publicist deemed easy to work with
What makes a writer want to open a pitch from a publicist or write back to it vs. just delete it
And more
Missed it live? No worries! We’re now selling the recording for you to watch on your own time.

Now onto this week’s newsletter. Where are the writers hanging out these days?
Keeping on topic for how to network with journalists, we did a bit of crowdsourcing to see which platforms people are using. We get asked this a lot so decided to do a bit of state of sourcing platform update. We’re offering our own experience with these platforms below and also including a few quotes we heard from others on how effective they are.
HARO
This was part of Connectivity and is no longer available.
Source of Sources (SOS) aka The NEW HARO:
Link to check it out: https://sourceofsources.com/
If you're not yet on SOS, it’s time to jump in. This platform is quickly becoming the new go-to for writers. It works similarly to HARO, allowing journalists to submit a form about what they’re sourcing for, and publicists receive calls for sources via a direct email newsletter that lands in their inboxes. Writers like how effective it is in getting the right sources and connecting with experts for their stories. We’ve been using it ourselves for sourcing, and it’s definitely worth checking out.
P.S. Still haring about people who are bummed HARO is gone. If you haven’t moved over to SOS, get going!
What others have said:
“I honestly wish there were more people using it. It’s so easy just like the old HARO.”
“The OG reincarnated. Have had success connecting with reporters so far. Wish there were more opps each day.”
